The ball mill is a horizontal cylinder filled with steel balls or similar. This cylinder rotates around its axis and transfers a circulating effect to the balls. The material passing through the mill is crushed by impact and ground by friction between the balls. The drive system can either be a central drive (central gearbox: spur gear or planetary gearbox) or a ring gear with pinion design (central gearbox: spur gearbox).

Our planetary industrial gearboxes and helical and bevel-helical industrial gearboxes are optimally designed for both versions. Despite their compact design, they supply the drive system with the torque required for the application. For smaller torques up to 500 kNm, our planetary industrial gearboxes are the ideal solution. P series and bevel and helical-bevel industrial gear units of the X series sufficient. For higher torques of up to 4,000 kNm, a combination of planetary industrial gear units from the XP series and helical bevel gearboxes of the industrial gearbox series X.

To ensure that the horizontal cylinders of ball mills rotate, large gear wheels are installed around the cylinder. These are directly connected to the industrial gear unit by a pinion.

We have developed an extremely flexible concept for such powerful applications: The spiders are divided into several identical segments. This concept simplifies production, transportation, assembly and maintenance. On request, we can supply and install the basic gearbox with drive pinion, as well as the foundation, cladding and many other options.
