Apron conveyors transport materials that would damage conventional conveyor belts due to their consistency or size. The transported loads fluctuate greatly and reach very high maximum loads. In apron conveyors, the industrial gearboxes are usually located at the end of each conveyor belt, where they drive both shaft ends. They are typically controlled by a frequency inverter.

The preferred drive technology for this application comprises a planetary gearbox with hollow shaft and shrink disk. In addition, there is a long torque support on the output side of the housing flange of the planetary gearbox. All system components must be able to withstand the difficult operating conditions.
